Processing Returned Stock

Use Return Orders when a customer return needs to be registered, received, inspected, and finished correctly.

When should I use this?

Use this workflow when you want to:

  • register an expected return before it arrives
  • mark the parcel as arrived when it reaches the warehouse
  • inspect the returned goods
  • decide whether to restock, hold, or dispose of the stock

How it works

The return record tracks the workflow.

The stock only changes when warehouse staff finish the return with Complete & apply.

Step-by-step

  1. Register the expected return, or create the return internally if the warehouse is handling it directly.
  2. When the parcel arrives, use Mark as Arrived.
  3. Inspect the goods and record the outcome for each line.
  4. Choose the right result for the stock:
    • Restock when the item can go back into saleable inventory
    • Quarantine or Hold when it needs review or repair
    • Destroy / recycle when it cannot go back into stock
  5. Click Complete & apply when the warehouse is ready to finish the return.

What happens next?

After Complete & apply:

  • stock is updated according to the inspection outcome
  • the return moves into its finished state when the stock change succeeds
  • the record stays available for audit and customer follow-up

Common questions

Does Mark as Arrived put stock back into inventory?

No. It only records that the parcel is physically on site.

What if the return needs review?

Some returns cannot be finished automatically. If ParcelPilot asks for review, follow the on-screen guidance before trying to complete the return.

Can the warehouse create a return without a customer pre-advice?

Yes. The warehouse can create the return directly when needed.
