Royal Mail Click & Drop

This guide covers what ParcelPilot needs to connect to Royal Mail Click & Drop, where to find it, and where to enter it in ParcelPilot.

What ParcelPilot needs

  1. API Key
  2. Environment (Sandbox / Production)
  3. Optional: Account Number (helpful if you have multiple RM accounts)

Where to find it (Royal Mail Click & Drop)

Royal Mail typically provides Click & Drop API access via your Click & Drop account settings.

General steps:

  1. Log in to Royal Mail Click & Drop
  2. Go to Settings / Integrations / API (wording varies)
  3. Create or view an API key

If you can’t find API settings, ask your Royal Mail contact / account manager to enable API access.

Where to enter it in ParcelPilot

ParcelPilot Admin → Integrations → Carrier Integrations → create/edit a Carrier Integration with platform Royal Mail Click & Drop.

Fill these fields:

  • API Keycredentials.api_key
  • Account Number (optional) → credentials.account_number
  • Environmentcredentials.environment

Services and routing

  • Set Allowed Services with Royal Mail product codes (e.g. CRL48) and user-friendly labels.
  • Use Auto Service Rules to pick a service automatically based on ecommerce platform/shipping method.

Troubleshooting

  • If labels fail to create, confirm the API key is correct and the environment matches (sandbox vs production).
  • If you have multiple accounts and the wrong one is used, set the Account Number explicitly.
  • For GB -> EU shipments, ParcelPilot now surfaces customs-readiness warnings by default. Missing declaration category, duty-payment setup, customs fee payment mode, recipient type, Incoterm, or B2B recipient EORI only block the shipment when the selected Royal Mail service or carrier policy explicitly marks them as required.

Security notes

  • Treat the API Key like a password.
  • Rotate the key if exposed.
