Morning Board

The Morning Board is Parcel Pilot's main dashboard for checking warehouse workload, orders requiring attention, today's work, and business performance.

Use it as the first screen for the day. The cards are designed to show the next queue to work, the exceptions that need follow-up, and the month-to-date operational picture for your current tenant or client scope.

Common support questions this guide answers include:

  • what is Morning Board?
  • what does Attention Required mean?
  • what does Today's Work show?
  • does Morning Board show all clients?
  • why is the dashboard number different from the Orders page?

What Morning Board shows

Morning Board is split into up to four sections:

  • Attention / Operations Inbox for urgent exceptions and follow-up items
  • Today's Work for live warehouse queues
  • Month-End Readiness for billing and operations checks that affect monthly charging
  • Business Pulse for current-month volume and overview counts

Most Morning Board numbers are live counts for your current scope. The Dispatch Problems card, and the Dispatch Problems part of Open Attention Items, are periodic operational snapshots refreshed in the background about every 5 minutes. Those cards show the age of the latest successful snapshot so the dashboard can stay responsive during expensive reconciliation periods.

Morning Board now follows the same dashboard health colours already used by Diagnostics and integration-status surfaces:

  • green means healthy or clear
  • amber means attention, queued work, or stale-but-not-failed status
  • red means critical failure or actionable exception state
  • blue means informational or current-status context
  • neutral means loading, unavailable, or not-applicable state

Who sees which cards

Morning Board changes by role.

  • client_user sees a reduced client-scoped board: Open Attention Items, My Shipment Problems, My Orders Awaiting Fulfilment, My Orders This Month / Total, and My Shipments This Month / Total.
  • operator sees the operational cards in Attention / Operations Inbox and Today's Work.
  • owner sees the operator cards plus Month-End Readiness and Business Pulse.
  • admin sees the owner view plus admin-only system widgets such as Integration Health, Diagnostics, and System Overview.
  • super-admin sees the tenant-wide operational and overview cards, plus the admin-only system widgets, but does not get the owner/admin month-end section by default.

How scope affects the numbers

Morning Board is always scoped to the current user context.

  • client_user is always locked to that user's client.
  • impersonation can lock an admin or super-admin into a specific client view.
  • non-impersonating super-admin users can see across tenants for cards that support cross-tenant totals.
  • tenant-wide cards exclude hidden or non-operational clients when the board is not locked to one client.
  • operational order cards exclude pre-go-live history orders.
  • shipment totals also exclude shipments that only belong to pre-go-live history orders.

If a number looks lower than a list page or export, check whether the other page includes archived clients, historical onboarding imports, or a different date/status filter.

Attention / Operations Inbox

This section highlights work that already needs investigation rather than planned warehouse activity.

Older support wording may call this the Attention Required area. In the current dashboard, the main summary card is labelled Open Attention Items.

If someone asks what Attention Required means on the dashboard, this is the current card and section to check first.

Open Attention Items

This card is a roll-up of the visible attention queues for your role.

  • for client_user, it currently follows the shipment-exception count only
  • for internal roles, it adds Shipment Problems, Dispatch Problems, and Returns Awaiting Processing when those queues are non-zero
  • for owner and admin, it also adds the total from Month-End Readiness

If this total looks higher than one card underneath it, that is expected. It is a combined count, not a separate queue.

For internal roles, the Dispatch Problems portion of this total comes from the same periodically refreshed snapshot used by the Dispatch Problems card. If that snapshot is still updating or temporarily unavailable, the card shows that status instead of running reconciliation inside the dashboard request.

Health semantics:

  • green when all visible contributing queues are healthy
  • amber when one or more contributing queues need ordinary attention and none are critical
  • red when any contributing queue is critical
  • neutral with an unavailable status when a required contributing dataset is unavailable and no visible critical queue is currently known

Shipment Problems

Visible label:

  • Shipment Problems for internal roles
  • My Shipment Problems for client_user

This card counts active shipments with status exception.

Use it when shipments need investigation because dispatch evidence or tracking status has entered an exception state. Clicking the total opens the Shipments list filtered to exception shipments. In tenant-wide views, a client breakdown appears underneath if more than one visible client has exceptions.

Dispatch Problems

This card counts orders whose canonical fulfilment reconciliation still shows actionable drift.

Typical included cases are:

  • shipment evidence missing for committed stock
  • shipment quantity exceeding committed quantity
  • committed quantity exceeding shipment evidence
  • inventory, reservation, or serial evidence mismatch

The card intentionally excludes historical or unmirrored cases that are informational only. Historical inventory-only mismatch evidence is also excluded when it does not still reduce live available stock. Historical orders remain included only if a real current reservation is still stuck on live inventory. Clicking the total opens the Orders list with the dispatch_reconciliation_exceptions filter applied.

This card is intentionally not calculated inside the dashboard request. Parcel Pilot refreshes a background snapshot roughly every 5 minutes and the card displays the latest successful result for the current tenant or locked-client scope. If no snapshot is ready yet, the card shows Updating.... If the latest refresh failed and there is no successful snapshot to reuse, the card shows Data currently unavailable instead of blocking the dashboard.

Support and operations notes:

  • the background refresh depends on the Laravel scheduler and the dedicated dispatch-snapshots queue worker running normally
  • deployments must include the additive migration database/migrations/2026_08_06_180000_add_last_profile_to_morning_board_dispatch_snapshots_table.php
  • a stale timestamp with a valid count usually means the dashboard is serving the last successful snapshot while a newer refresh is waiting or failing
  • if support needs to repopulate snapshots after deployment, use php artisan morning-board:refresh-dispatch-snapshots --force
  • when a refresh becomes slow, inspect last_profile.reconciliation_query_groups on the snapshot row to see the normalized SQL, owning call site, count, and total elapsed time for repeated reconciliation queries

Returns Awaiting Processing

This card counts returns still in the active return workflow.

Current statuses included are:

  • NEW
  • AWAITING_ARRIVAL
  • ARRIVED
  • INSPECTED

Clicking the total opens the Returns list filtered to those statuses. client_user does not see this card.

Diagnostics

admin and super-admin users can also see the Diagnostics widget in this section.

It is a system-health summary rather than an order or shipment queue. It shows scheduler heartbeat, queue backlog, failed jobs, latest sync timestamps, integration issue count, and recent backup health.

Integration Health

admin and super-admin users can also see Integration Health here.

This widget lists client integrations in the current scope, including client, category, platform, whether the integration is enabled, optional last-error text, and how recently it changed.

Today's Work

This section is the live warehouse work queue.

Orders Awaiting Pick

Visible label:

  • Orders Awaiting Pick for internal roles
  • My Orders Awaiting Fulfilment for client_user

This card counts operationally actionable orders in new or picking status.

The count excludes:

  • pre-go-live history orders
  • orders marked for external fulfilment
  • inactive lifecycle states
  • orders blocked for awaiting_payment

Clicking the total opens the Orders list with the orders_awaiting_pick filter applied. In tenant-wide views, a client breakdown appears when multiple visible clients have work in the queue.

Picked Awaiting Dispatch

This card counts orders that are already fully picked but still have dispatch work outstanding.

The count includes:

  • orders whose picking has completed and whose remaining quantity still needs a shipment workflow
  • additional-shipment cases where an earlier shipment exists but picked outstanding quantity remains

The count excludes:

  • orders that already satisfy Ready for Shipment Booking
  • historical-only shipmentless evidence cases
  • orders where the remaining quantity is already represented by shipment-evidence drift instead of a clean dispatch queue
  • hidden or non-operational client work in tenant-wide views

Clicking the total opens the Orders list with the picked_awaiting_dispatch filter applied.

Ready for Shipment Booking

This card counts orders that are operationally actionable, already fulfilled, and still have no non-cancelled shipment evidence.

When the count is above 0, this card is treated as amber operational work rather than informational context.

Outstanding Assemblies

This card counts open Inventory Assembly records in your current Morning Board scope where:

  • status is draft
  • Remaining qty is greater than 0

It does not include:

  • draft assemblies that already have Remaining qty = 0
  • completed assemblies
  • cancelled assemblies
  • any future workflow state that does not exist in the current Assembly lifecycle

If the card shows a secondary line, it is the total remaining build quantity across those open Assembly records.

Clicking the total opens the Inventory Assemblies list filtered to the Outstanding view.

It excludes:

  • cancelled orders
  • channel-cancelled orders
  • merge secondary orders
  • virtual orders
  • orders that already have an active shipment
  • pre-go-live history orders and other non-operational records

Clicking the total opens the Orders list with the ready_for_shipment_booking filter applied. client_user does not see this card.

Manual / Client-Managed Shipments to Close

This card tracks older manual-booked or client-managed shipment records that are still open.

It includes shipments that:

  • use carrier manual, manual_csv, or manual_booking, or service client_provided or client_collected
  • are not in a final tracking status
  • were created more than 7 days ago

It does not include External fulfilment, because that workflow records fulfilment outside Parcel Pilot warehouse stock deduction.

The secondary line shows the wider open queue, including how many are over 30 days old. Clicking the total opens the Shipments list with the manual_shipments_to_close filter applied. client_user does not see this card.

Month-End Readiness

This section appears for owner and admin only.

It is tenant-scoped month-end and billing diagnostics for the current month. Each card links into Operations Diagnostics for the same month, and tenant-wide views can show affected-client breakdown rows underneath.

Month-End Readiness summary card

This is the top-level month-end summary card.

It counts all currently open month-end readiness issues across the diagnostic set below. The secondary line shows how many clients are affected in the current scope.

If the value is 0, the board currently sees no open month-end issues for the selected tenant or client.

Health semantics:

  • green when no readiness issues are open
  • amber when only warning-level follow-up items are open
  • red when at least one blocking month-end issue is open

Missing Shipment Costs

This card counts shipments in the current month that do not yet have a usable shipping cost path.

Typical reasons include:

  • no manual client cost recorded
  • no mapped pricing metric could be resolved from the shipment service
  • the resolved pricing metric has no active client tariff rate

Clicking the total opens Operations Diagnostics filtered to missing-shipment-costs for the current month.

Missing Pricing

This card counts billable metrics that were found for the current month but still have no active tariff rate.

Clicking the total opens Operations Diagnostics filtered to missing-pricing.

Missing Service Mappings

This card counts shipments whose service naming could not be mapped into the billing metric model.

Clicking the total opens Operations Diagnostics filtered to missing-service-mappings.

Storage Snapshots Missing

This card counts clients that appear to need storage charging for the current billing window but have no storage snapshot rows for that window.

It only applies where storage charging is enabled and relevant storage tariffs are in use.

Clicking the total opens Operations Diagnostics filtered to storage-snapshots-missing.

Labels Metric Missing

This card counts clients where label-related additional services were recorded in the current month but no labels metric was detected for charging.

Clicking the total opens Operations Diagnostics filtered to labels-metric-missing.

Business Pulse

This section shows current-month throughput and high-level overview counts.

Orders This Month / Total

Visible label:

  • Orders This Month / Total for internal roles
  • My Orders This Month / Total for client_user

The left number is the count of scoped orders whose ordered_at date falls inside the current calendar month. The right number is the scoped operational total order count.

The totals exclude pre-go-live history orders. Clicking the card opens the Orders list filtered to the current month. Tenant-wide views can also show per-client rows using the same month and client_id filters.

Shipments This Month / Total

Visible label:

  • Shipments This Month / Total for internal roles
  • My Shipments This Month / Total for client_user

The left number is the count of scoped shipments created in the current calendar month. The right number is the scoped shipment total.

The totals exclude shipments tied only to pre-go-live history orders, but orderless shipments can still count if they are otherwise in scope. Clicking the card opens the Shipments list filtered to the current month.

System Overview

admin and super-admin users can also see System Overview in this section.

It shows scoped counts for integrations, clients, users, and customers. The integration description contains direct links into eCommerce, accounting, and carrier integration lists.

Why a card may be missing

A Morning Board card usually disappears for one of these reasons:

  • your role does not include that card
  • your current view is locked to a client that does not have matching records
  • the card is tenant-only and you are in a client-only role
  • the month-end cards are not available in your role
  • the current scope has no visible client breakdown rows because the total is zero

The board does not show empty sections. If every widget in a section is unavailable for your role, that section title is hidden too.

Why a dashboard number can differ from another page

The most common reasons are:

  • the dashboard uses a narrower status definition than the list page you are comparing against
  • the dashboard is locked to one client, while the other page is tenant-wide
  • the dashboard excludes pre-go-live history orders
  • tenant-wide dashboard metrics exclude hidden or non-operational clients
  • month cards use the current calendar month, not a rolling 30-day window
  • month-end cards come from diagnostic and billing checks, not simple list counts

If you need to investigate a difference, click the card total first and compare against the filtered destination page rather than an unfiltered list.

Common questions

What is Morning Board for?

Morning Board is the main operations dashboard for checking urgent exceptions, today's live fulfilment workload, month-end readiness, and month-to-date business activity.

What does Attention Required mean?

In current Morning Board wording, Attention Required usually means the same idea as Open Attention Items.

It is the combined attention total for the queues visible to your role, rather than a separate hidden queue.

What does Today's Work show?

Today's Work shows the live warehouse work queues for the current scope.

Depending on role, that currently means:

  • Orders Awaiting Pick or My Orders Awaiting Fulfilment
  • Picked Awaiting Dispatch
  • Ready for Shipment Booking
  • Manual / Client-Managed Shipments to Close

Does Morning Board show all clients?

Not always. client_user is always client-scoped. Impersonation can also lock the board to one client. Tenant-wide views exclude hidden or non-operational clients from operational KPI cards.

Why can't I see Month-End Readiness?

That section is currently shown only for owner and admin users.

Why can't I see Returns Awaiting Processing or Ready for Shipment Booking?

client_user does not get those internal operational cards.

Why is Open Attention Items different from Shipment Problems?

Because Open Attention Items is a combined attention total. It is not just shipment problems.

Why is Orders Awaiting Pick different from the full Orders list?

Morning Board counts only operationally actionable orders in new or picking status, and excludes pre-go-live history, external-fulfilment orders, inactive lifecycle states, and payment-held records.

Why is the dashboard number different from the Orders page?

The dashboard card and the Orders page often differ when you compare a filtered KPI against an unfiltered list.

This is one of the most common Morning Board questions because the dashboard is summarising a specific operational slice, not mirroring the whole Orders page.

Check these first:

  • whether the card is client-scoped and the Orders page is tenant-wide
  • whether the card uses the current month only
  • whether the card excludes pre-go-live history or non-operational clients
  • whether the Orders page is using a different status filter than the Morning Board card
