Scan Anything — Warehouse Lookup Tool

Use Scan in the Operations menu when you need a fast, read-only lookup for stock, serials, or locations.

The live page heading is Scan anything and the page description says it can scan with the camera, a handheld scanner, or manual entry.

If the question is "how do I find stock by barcode?" or "how do I do a barcode lookup?", this is the guide you want.

What this does

Scan Anything is a warehouse lookup tool.

It helps you:

identify an item from a barcode or SKU
find stock by barcode without starting a receipt
find a serialised unit and see its current status and location
open a location and see whether it contains stock
check whether a component item is currently limiting a bundle

This page is primarily read-only. It does not receive stock, ship stock, transfer stock, or edit quantities. It can link you to View or View contents pages when a result includes a location.

When to use it

Use Scan Anything when you need a quick answer such as:

what item is this barcode for?
where is this serial number?
which location is this stock in?
how much stock is available versus reserved?
is this item used in any bundles?

Do not use it to:

receive goods into stock
complete a pick
move stock between locations
look up orders, shipments, or receipts

The audited production page currently supports item, serial, and location lookup only.

Before you start

Go to Operations -> Scan.
You must be signed in.
Current page access is limited to users with one of these roles: operator, admin, owner, or super-admin.
Client users do not currently have access to this page.

What you can scan or search for

The current implementation supports these lookup types.

Item lookup

You can find an item by:

SKU
barcode
customer SKU alias fields that are stored on the item

This is the current barcode-search page for item and stock lookup. Use it when you want to find stock by barcode rather than receive stock.

The page does not currently provide a generic item-name search on the Scan page itself.

Serial lookup

You can scan or enter a serial number.

If the serial exists in the current tenant and client scope, Parcel Pilot shows the matching inventory unit.

Location lookup

You can scan or enter:

a location code
a location QR URL in the Parcel Pilot location-actions format

Lookup types not currently confirmed on this page

The audited implementation does not confirm direct lookup for:

order number
shipment number
receipt number
inventory unit ID

Normal workflow

Open Operations -> Scan.
Choose one input method:
- Start camera for camera scanning
- Handheld scanner for keyboard-wedge style scanning
- Manual entry to type a value and click Search
Scan or enter the value.
Review the result panel.
Use the linked View or View contents action if you need to inspect the related location in more detail.

What the results mean

Item result

An item result shows:

Matched by
SKU
Name
Available
Reserved
On hand
a location list with per-location quantity, available, and reserved figures
Used in Bundles when the item is a component in one or more current bundle definitions

If a location row has a View button, you can open that location's contents page.

Serial result

A serial result shows:

Matched by
Serial
Status
the linked item SKU and name
the current location code, if assigned

Location result

A location result shows:

Matched by
Location code
Item count
Total stock
View contents

The location result also includes the warehouse code for that location.

Multiple matches

If more than one record matches the scanned value, the page shows Multiple matches and lists the candidate records.

This is most likely when the same barcode has been attached to more than one item.

No match

If nothing matches, the page shows No match and keeps the scanned value visible so you can check it.

Worked examples

Find stock by barcode

Open Scan.
Scan the product barcode.
Parcel Pilot returns the item result.
Check Available, Reserved, and On hand.
Check the location rows to see where the stock is currently stored.

This is the normal barcode lookup or barcode search workflow when you want to find stock, find an item, or check where a scanned barcode currently sits in the warehouse.

Find a serial number

Open Scan.
Scan or type the serial number.
Parcel Pilot returns the serial result.
Check the unit Status and Location before deciding what warehouse action to take next.

Open a location from a QR label

Scan the location QR label.
Parcel Pilot resolves the location.
Review Item count and Total stock.
Click View contents if you need the full location view.

Why a barcode, serial, or SKU might not be found

The value belongs to another tenant.
The value belongs to another client and your current user is client-scoped.
The SKU, barcode, or customer SKU alias is missing from the item record.
The serial has not been received into inventory yet.
The label contains the wrong value.
The location code or QR URL is not a current Parcel Pilot location.

Permissions and scoping

The live resolver is scoped by the current user context.

Non-super-admin users are restricted to their tenant.
Item and serial searches can also be restricted to the current client when the user is client-scoped.
The Scan page does not currently apply a warehouse filter by default, so item and serial results can span the allowed scope and then show you the relevant locations.

Common problems

I scanned a barcode and got multiple matches

Two or more items currently share the same barcode. Review the candidate list and correct the item data if the barcode should be unique.

I scanned a serial and it says no match

Check whether the serial has been received yet, whether it belongs to the expected client, and whether the label was scanned correctly.

I need to move or receive stock from this page

Scan Anything does not perform those actions. Use the appropriate warehouse workflow instead.

The location result shows stock, but I need the full list of contents

Use View contents from the location result.
