Packing Boxes

Packing Boxes are box presets you can configure for a client.

They exist to:

  • keep parcel dimensions consistent (so labels and carrier rates are based on the actual packaging), and
  • add packaging/tare weight on top of the item weight calculation.

What a Packing Box does

When you select a Packing Box during shipment creation:

  • the shipment length/width/height are filled from the preset
  • the shipment box weight (tare) is filled from the preset

You can still adjust the fields afterwards if needed.

Generic vs client-specific (and Warehouse scope)

Packing Boxes are scoped to:

  • Client-specific boxes: only available for that one client (useful for branded packaging).
  • Generic (all clients) boxes: available for any client in the tenant, but only if that client has Allow generic packing boxes enabled.
  • Warehouse (optional):
    • if a box has a warehouse selected, it only shows for shipments shipping from that warehouse
    • if warehouse is left blank, the box can be used from any warehouse for that client

Add or edit Packing Boxes

  1. Go to Administration → Packing Boxes.
  2. Select Create to add a new box.
  3. Fill in:
  • Generic (all clients) (optional): if enabled, the box can be used by any client (subject to the client setting)
  • Name (what operators will pick in the shipment modal)
  • Length / Width / Height (cm)
  • Tare weight (grams) (empty box weight)
  • Active (inactive boxes won’t appear in the shipment selector)
  • Sort order (lower numbers appear first)
  • Warehouse (optional)
  1. Save.

To update a box, open it and Edit.

Selecting a box when creating a shipment

Single order shipment creation:

  1. Go to Orders.
  2. On the order row, select Create shipment.
  3. In the Package section, choose Box preset.

What happens next:

  • dimensions are overwritten with the preset’s dimensions
  • Add box weight is enabled
  • Box weight is set to the preset’s tare weight

If you need to override:

  • change the dimensions directly, or
  • turn off Auto-calculate from items and enter a manual weight

Bulk create shipments

Bulk create shipments currently:

  • computes weight and dimensions per order from the items, and
  • does not offer a per-order Box preset selector.

If you need a specific box preset for an order, create the shipment from that order using the single-order Create shipment action.
