Managing Items and SKUs
Use this guide when you need to add or maintain products in ParcelPilot.
If your products come from an ecommerce platform, use Import Items from eCommerce (Pull Products) instead of creating them one by one.
Before you start
Check these fields first:
- SKU should be stable and unique for the client.
- Name, Weight, and ideally dimensions should be filled in.
- Barcode helps warehouse scanning if you use it.
- Turn on Serialised before stock is received if the item must be tracked by serial number.
- Choose the right Product Type before you build assembly, bundle, or repacking setup around the item.
- If you ship internationally, fill in Commodity code (HS) and Country of origin.
Add an item
- Go to Items.
- Click Create Item.
- Enter the basic product details:
- Client when applicable
- SKU
- Name
- Add the recommended operational fields:
- Barcode
- Weight and unit
- Dimensions
- Image if it helps warehouse accuracy
- Active for live products
- Save the item.
Choose the right product type
- Standard stock item: normal warehoused product
- Assemble to Stock: finished product built from components inside the warehouse
- Explode on Fulfilment or Configurable Bundle: ordered as one product, fulfilled from component items
- Repacking enabled: source item that can be converted into a different output item
If you are unsure, use Items — Product Types And Components.
Edit an item
- Search for the SKU in Items.
- Open the item.
- Update the fields you need.
- Click Save.
Common settings that matter later
Receipt charges
If new receipts for this SKU should start with receiving charges turned off, use Exclude this item from receipt charges.
Bundle shipping weight
For virtual bundles, choose whether shipping weight should be entered manually or calculated from the bundle components.
Measured internal items
If you use measured internal components, set the base unit and increment rules before stock starts moving through the workflow.
Common questions
What happens if I change the SKU?
Anything outside ParcelPilot that relies on that SKU may stop matching cleanly.
Should I delete old items?
Usually no. If a SKU is no longer used, set it to Inactive instead.
Why can deletion be blocked?
Items used in orders or other history are usually kept for audit reasons.
Bulk actions
- Export CSV downloads selected items.
- Re-import from eCommerce platform refreshes selected items from their linked integration.
- Delete removes items where deletion is still allowed.
